Summary | The Applicants allege that there has been a violation of the rights of residents of Tanzania by the security agencies and agents of the Respondent, including militia and other non-state actors acting with the active support and/or forbearance of these agencies and agents, in the days preceding, during and immediately after the 28th October 2020 General Elections of killings, torture, enforced disappearances, abductions, acts of sexual violence including gang rape, rape and sexual assault, illegal arrests and detention, destruction and looting of property, forced displacement and system abuse of legal process. Thus, infringing Articles 6(d), 7(2) and 8(1)(c ) of the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community.
