REFERENCE NO. 50 OF 2022 LEGAL BRAINS TRUST (LBT) LTD VS THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE REPUBLIC OF UGANDA

The Applicant’s alleges that, the multifaceted decision of Uganda’s National Bureau for Non-Governmental Organizations communicated by the Executive Director through a letter dated 3 August 2022, referenced ADM/NGOB/42/40/402 and circulated to 237 Government institutions and offices including the Minister of Internal Affairs, Uganda Police Force, Director of Public Prosecutions, Financial Intelligence Authority, Internal Security Organisation, Uganda AIDs Commission, all chief Administrative Officers and Resident District Commissioners, declaring inter alia that all activities of Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) and its partnership are not only irregular but illegal merely because the said association is unregistered, was unlawful and an infringement of the principles of good governance enshrined in Articles 6(d) and 7(2) of the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community.
