REFERENCE NO. 57 OF 2022 THE ENVIRONMENTAL SHIELD LTD. & ANOTHER V. THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE REPUBLIC OF UGANDA & ANOTHER

The Applicants filed the reference on basis of Articles 6c,6d,7(2),8(1),111 &112 and alleges that the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) from the oil fields in Uganda to the port of Tanga in Tanzania along the Indian Ocean will cause grave environmental, social and economic injustices to the communities in the countries along the path of the pipeline in contravention of the aforementioned articles of the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community.
